Hinoki (Chamaecyparis obtusa) is revered in Japanese woodworking tradition for a reason most turners discover on the first cut: it works like no other softwood. The fine, straight grain machines cleanly and holds detail. The aroma, a distinctive lemon-cedar compound called hinokitiol, is retained in the finished piece. The pale cream-gold colour deepens to warm honey with age and light.

Sourcing quality hinoki turning blanks has historically meant either compromising on grade or navigating Japanese domestic suppliers without a trusted contact. We've solved that. Our blanks are clear grade, dressed four sides, kiln-dried, and cut specifically for turning — with no pith.

We ship worldwide. A single box of 40 pieces via EMS courier is the entry point. Full container loads are also available for studios and retailers who want to stock them.
