Who Buys Unfinished Japanese Lumber?
Japanese timber is most cost-effective when sourced rough sawn and finished locally. Buyers are typically mill owners or manufacturers who have the equipment to dress and dimension on their end and want full control over the final surface and profile.
Sugi works well for exterior cladding and decorative interior applications, where a lightweight board with strong visual character is an asset. Hinoki is preferred where moisture resistance matters or where the natural fragrance is part of the specification.
Karamatsu suits structural and exterior builds that require a harder, denser board. Todomatsu is a clean, stable white fir that performs well in joinery and interior panelling where consistency of appearance is the priority.
Both kiln-dried and green (untreated) stock can be arranged depending on species and grade. Other Japanese species not listed here can also be sourced. Price on Application (POA).
