Sugi 杉 — Japanese Cedar Timber

Rough Sawn or Kiln-Dried Boards | Sourced Direct From Japanese Mills

The Timber That Defines Japan

Sugi (Cryptomeria japonica) is Japan's most widely planted and versatile timber species. Its heartwood ranges from soft pink to deep salmon red, mellowing over decades into a warmth no stain replicates. Straight grain, light weight, and natural tannins deliver genuine durability without chemical treatment.

For international buyers, the challenge has never been the timber. It has been the supply chain. Sugi from certified Japanese mills, correctly graded and compliant with your requirements is not straightforward to source without a direct connection to Japanese producers. That is what we provide.

All of our Sugi is sourced directly from our mill network and GOHO certified. We have developed our own grade range to give buyers consistent, clearly defined options. From our 100% clear C-Grade through to our live and knotty M-Grade, which is a substrate of choice for authentic yakisugi charring.

Sugi Grades — Know What You're Ordering
